PEACE SIGN 2015 - How many more lives?

peaceThe World without Wars and Violence in cooperation with the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO) and the Greek Forum of Refugees invite you to take your place in the Peace Sign 2015 this Friday 15 May at 20:30 at Monastiraki Square in Athens, Greece, in the rhythms of African drums of the ANASA Cultural Center.

According to SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) in 2014 the military spending worldwide was $1,8 trillions. The consequences of the huge military spending each year are not only long-term but also short-term. The tragedies in the Mediterranean are dramatically increasing with thousands of victims, refugees and migrants, as more and more people are trying to flee from war zones, armed conflicts, human rights violations and extreme poverty. How many more lives must be lost before we realise as humanity the absurd and the dead-end of war, and the vicious cycle of violence?

With this sign the violence on the planet will not cease immediately, nor will the wars disappear. But we send out a human sign of protest calling for the end of violence and wars. We send out a human sign of solidarity with those who suffer the consequences of the wars and with those who resist war and violence through conscientious objection and active non-violence.

So we call you this Friday 15 May (World Day on Conscientious Objection) at 20:30 at Monastiraki Square in Athens, Greece to form a human peace sign all together. We are waiting for you!
