Athens 14-5-2019 - Amnesty International Greece: event with conscientious objectors from Greece, Cyprus and Germany

On the occasion of the international conscientious objection day, Amnesty International Greece will organise an informative and artistic event with conscientious objectors from Greece, Cyprus and Germany on 16/5 in Athens, including discussion and art, with the participation of:
Halil Karapasaoglu, Turkish-Cypriot conscientious objector and poet.

Thodoris Dimitrakakis, Greek conscientious objector currently serving civilian service. 
Alexia Tsouni will briefly present on behalf of EBCO the situation in European countries regarding compulsory military service and recognition of the right to conscientious objection.
Eleni Velivasaki, lawyer, will analyze on behalf of Amnesty International the recommendations of the organization to the Greek authorities regarding the CO legislation and practice in Greece.
Turkish-Cypriot CO Halil Karapasaoglu will recite relevant poems of him, and Greek writer Thodoris Iliopoulos will recite poems of Greek CO Michalis Maragakis.

In addition there will be a photography exhibition of Friedhelm Schneider, German CO and President of the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO) with a collection of peace and anti-war photos from around the world.
